Step-by-Step Guide
Prepare the Turkish Coffee
Brew authentic Turkish coffee using finely ground coffee beans in a traditional cezve (Turkish coffee pot). Serve in a small, white porcelain cup - the white interior makes patterns easier to read. Do not add milk, as this interferes with the grounds settling properly.
Drink with Intention
As you drink, focus on a specific question or area of your life you want insight into. Sip slowly and mindfully, allowing your energy to transfer to the cup. Stop drinking when you reach the thick grounds at the bottom, leaving about a tablespoon of liquid.
Make Your Wish and Flip
Place the saucer face-down on top of the cup. Hold them together firmly, make a silent wish, and swirl the cup three times clockwise. Then flip the cup and saucer together so the cup is upside down on the saucer.
Let It Rest
Allow the cup to rest for 5-10 minutes. Some traditions suggest placing a coin on top for money readings or a ring for love readings. Wait until the cup is cool to touch before proceeding.
Examine the Patterns
Carefully lift the cup from the saucer. Look at the inside of the cup and the patterns on the saucer. Start from the handle and move clockwise, examining shapes, symbols, and figures formed by the coffee grounds.
Interpret the Symbols
Identify recognizable shapes - animals, letters, numbers, objects, or abstract patterns. Each symbol carries meaning. Consider their size, clarity, and position relative to other symbols for a complete reading.
Understand the Timeline
The cup is divided into time zones: the rim represents the present and immediate future, the middle section shows events in the coming weeks, and the bottom indicates the distant future or outcomes. The handle represents the querent (person being read).
